Behind the Design: The Inspiration for the Stars and Stripes Collection

Summer is without a doubt one of our favorite seasons of the year and in our opinion, the best part of summer are the long 3-day weekends. Who else counts down the days to Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day? 

We knew we wanted to design a collection celebrating these special weekends. The theme we decided on was “Stars and Stripes”; a nod to the American spirit that's infused into our favorite weekends of the year. 

Now that we had a theme, it was time to design the pieces. We started brainstorming ideas and putting together a mood board. Here it is!

When putting together the mood board, we were imagining those summer days when little ones have sand between their toes, sun-kissed cheeks, and sticky fingers from their favorite popsicle treats. 

And that’s when we discovered our inspiration for the collection … popsicles!

You know those Firecracker popsicles that are red, white, and blue and sooo delish on the perfect summer day? Yep, those ones! Those sweet treats led us to design these cute styles: 

Popsicle Tutu

Ok, seriously every little girl needs this tutu to celebrate 4th of July this year! This cute style is red, white, and turquoise blue ombre accented with silver glitter pin dots and a silver glitter elastic waistband. Even if 4th of July parades are up in the air this year, it’s still a fun and festive way to celebrate at home … and of course makes the cutest Instagram photo ;) 

Popsicle Hair Accessories

This look is inspired directly from the Firecracker Popsicles we love so much! We decided to offer this design 3 ways - as a hair clip, headband, and a soft elastic headband for babies. Such a fun way to accent a red, white, and blue outfit.

We obviously had to design a popsicle kids tee shirt to match back to the Popsicle Tutu and Popsicle Hair Accessories! This style is also offered as a bodysuit - perfect for those little babes. 

Little Firecracker Shirt

This design is offered 2 ways - one for girls and one for boys (though the boys style could definitely be considered gender neutral if that’s more your style!). This design is offered as a tee shirt for toddlers (here's the girl style and here's the boy style), but we’re partial to the bodysuit version for babies. Isn’t this the perfect bodysuit for a little one celebrating their first 4th of July?! Suchhh a cute Instagram photo! 

Let’s hear it for the boys! We always like to include a boy-specific design for all of our boy mamas out there. This heather gray tee is made of a super soft fine jersey and we’re loving the 3-color graphic. It’s the first time we did a 3-color graphic and we must admit, we’re pretty obsessed! Of course, it's also offered as a bodysuit for the little babes.

Firecracker Crown

Did you know Sweet Wink started as a collection of fun and festive crowns? Mamas love accessorizing littles in crowns when snapping photos for Instagram (anything for the perfect ‘gram!). This crown is a must-have, especially for a little girl celebrating a July birthday!
